A study was published in the International Journal of Hypnotherapy in 2013 about the clinical effectiveness of certain acupuncture points to induce hypnotherapy induction.
They studied people who had phobias or even tendency to panic attacks during dental procedures. They selected one set of points for each patient and found that out of the 7 points tested, 3 had particular benefits in complementing the hypnotherapy treatment. The LI 4 point, which is often used for pain relief, was the best on providing muscle relaxation, PC6 which is used for nausea was good for relieving tension. The best point out of the 7 for enhancement of the hypnotic effect was the point GV24.
This result is promising and further studies are needed in this field to explore further possibilities in applying the combination of acupuncture and hypnotherapy for many behavioural changes and health problems.
